GET A GRIP-PIPING might sound like a strange name (at least for the non piping fraternity) for a piping orientated web site so let me explain.............

A GRIP, is an embellishment or finger movement used in piping to embellish or enhance the main musical (themel) notes. The web site has been published to advertise a piping tutor (and piper for hire) who will pass on his significant knowledge allowing you, the potential pupil to; get a grip!

Now that I've explained the play on words, let me explain more about myself.

I am a professional piper with over 30 years experience both as a solo performer and competing with various top grade 1 pipe bands; nearly 25 of these years have been spent in the British Army. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled the world and have performed at many prestigious events with many well known recording artists both as part of a band and as a solo player. I have acted as personal piper to HM Prince Charles when he resided in Holyrood Palace and played at his wedding to Lady Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005. I have also performed on the White House Lawn, Windsor Castle and have been the Lone Piper at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo on many occasions. In 2000 a tune I composed was played by the Massed Bands of the Scottish Division on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade as a tribute to HM the Queen Mother. A framed copy of this tune was later presented to the Queen Mother at Clarence House. I was also commissioned to compose a tune to commemorate the Army in Scotland's involvement in the Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2001, a copy of this tune now hangs in the Scottish Parliament Building and in the Scottish Veterinary College. Over the past 10 years I have been heavily involved with the tuition of young Army Pipers and served as the Senior Instructor at the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming. I was also the Pipe Major of the Pipers Trail, a youth initiative program travelling the length and breadth of Scotland teaching primary and secondary school children the basics of piping. Having now left the Army I am dedicated to passing my knowledge on to private pupils and groups alike.

Due to work commitments I split my time between the central belt and Inverness so I am happy to undertake engagements in most of central Scotland and the Highlands. Depending on your requirements and location I may be able to commute to you for lessons or to collect your bagpipes in order to maintain your instruments. All work considered!
