The maintenance of your bagpipe is as crucial as the maintenance of a car. A car and a set of bagpipes will function normally for a while without regular maintenance but eventually you start to hear strange noises and slowly but surely they will both stop working. This process is accelerated if the pipes/car is not being regularly used.

I am not a car mechanic so no more about cars. I am however very knowledgeable about bagpipe maintenance! Poorly maintained bagpipes will never achieve their full potential; therefore neither will the piper playing them. Bagpipes when played incorrectly or by an unaccomplished piper can sound terrible but very often some minor maintenance will greatly enhance the overall performance. This increases the unaccomplished pipers enjoyment of playing the bagpipes and promotes their interest in learning and eventually becoming an accomplished piper.

There are many things that can go wrong with a set of bagpipes but there are some simple checks that you can carry out in order to find and fix potential problems.
I offer two options with regards to bagpipe maintenance;

1. I carry out all checks, find and fix any problems, repairing or replacing parts as necessary and return your instrument.
2. I carry out all checks with you, teaching you how to find and fix any problems. I then order replacement parts as necessary and return your instrument once the replacement parts are fitted.

The end result for your instrument is the same whether you go for option 1 or 2 but with option 2 I will enable you to maintain your own pipes, saving you time money and effort whilst enhancing your playing enjoyment.
